5.  Brown Buttered Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe: This is my new favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. You can substitute Cup4Cup gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version. If you enjoy baking desserts, pick up Zac’s new cookbook, Cooking With Zac. The dessert recipes are my favorite.

6.  Make Something Good Today by Erin and Ben Napier: Erin and Ben are the stars of HGTV’s Hometown. Make Something Good Today is Erin and Ben’s memoir. I liked them even more after reading their story.

7.  Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Chenry: Becoming Mrs. Lewis is about the friendship and eventual love story of C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman.

8. Bad Blood Secrets and Lies in Silicon Valley by John Carreyrou: Bad Blood details the rise and fall of Theranos. If you aren’t familiar with the Theranos story, here’s the short version: the company promised to quickly give you a complete picture of your health using only a small amount of blood. Elizabeth Holmes founded it when she was just 19 years old, and both she and Theranos quickly became the darlings of Silicon Valley. She gave massively popular TED talks and appeared on the covers of Forbes and Fortune. Carreyrou is the Wall Street Journal reporter who first revealed that Theranos was not actually achieving what Holmes claimed, though her company had been valued at $9 billion. Her net worth neared $5 billion, and her deals with Walgreens and Safeway could have put her technology into thousands of stores, thus measuring the health of millions, until Carreyrou showed that the whole impressive edifice rested on lies.

9.  The Marvelous Millennial’s Manual to Modern Manners by Catherine Wallace & Jessica Wallace Marventano: The Marvelous Millennials Manual to Modern Manners: Professional Success and Happiness With the Help of Business Etiquette focuses on manners as a component of one’s leadership journey, and, they say, the key to success in business and in life. A must-read for recent graduates and anyone wanting to brush up on etiquette. Check out their interview on the She Said She Said Podcast for etiquette tips in social settings.

12. The Case Against Adnan Syed: The HBO series explores the 1999 disappearance and murder of 18-year-old Baltimore County high school student Hae Min Lee, and the subsequent conviction of her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, a case brought to global attention by the hugely popular Serial podcast.

13. The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley: The HBO documentary tells the story of how Elizabeth Holmes’ company Theranos was built on a lie. Though Holmes claimed that Theranos had created a method of testing that could detect a wide range of medical issues with a single drop of blood, it was all smoke and mirrors. The tech didn’t work, even though Holmes had convinced powerful investors to throw their money behind the company.

14. Bon Appétit’s Baking School: Everyone’s favorite pastry chef Claire Saffitz takes you back to baking school. She’s showing us everything that goes into making the world’s most popular baked goods. Watch the first episode here.

LISTEN

16. My Saving Grace by Kristin Chenoweth:  Kristen Chenoweth is best known for her role as Glinda in the musical Wicked. I love her collection of songs of faith available for download on Apple Music and Spotify.

17. Ep. 30 Abby Johnson Interview: The Unplanned movie is the true story of Abby Johnson. For those who’ve read her page-turning 2010 book Unplanned, it’s no surprise this story was made into a film. Nowhere before has there been a story that captured such empathy for both sides of a nationally divisive issue as that of Abby Johnson. You won’t believe some of the things she shared in this interview.

In this article, Abby addresses the article from Texas Monthly that has been used as the sole source to try and debunk her life story of being a Planned Parenthood director who became pro-life.

Listen to this podcast interview with the directors of Unplanned and God’s Not Dead. They discuss how the movie was financed and the challenges of making faith-based films. It should be noted the film was rated R and does not contain any bad language or nudity.
