Five Things: NYC

If I had to choose one layover as my all-time favorite, it would be NYC. I enjoy the food scene, shopping, and Broadway shows.

This weekend I had a long layover in Long Island. I hopped on board the Long Island Railroad. The train is a convenient way to travel to Manhattan from Long Island. The trains run once an hour, and the ride is 1 hour and 15 minutes from Central Islip to Penn Station. It costs $25 for a round trip ticket. Most hotels provide shuttle service to the train stations in Long Island. Uber is also available on Long Island.

Here are 5 things I enjoyed in NYC.

Senza Gluten

{Senza Gluten}

1.  SENZA GLUTEN: First on my agenda was an early dinner at Senza Gluten. Senza Gluten is a new 100% gluten-free restaurant in Greenwich Village. I ordered the Margherita pizza made with San Marzano tomato sauce, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, and extra virgin olive oil. San Marzano are the best tomatoes. It was as good as the gluten-free pizza in Italy. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance. I sat outside but took a peek inside and the interior seating has a rustic vibe. The service was excellent. The owner made a point to introduce herself to me and asked my thoughts on the meal. I recommend making a reservation due to the restaurant’s popularity.

My Top 12 Podcasts I Listen To

I love listening to podcasts. I listen to podcasts while I am exercising, cooking, and traveling.

If you are not familiar with podcasts, a podcast is a radio show that you can download and listen to any time you want. Podcasts are great company on long road trips as well as daily commutes. The best part about podcasts is they are completely free to download or stream online. Rather than listening to the radio or music, give podcasts a chance.

I listen to podcasts on my iPhone. It’s portable, and there are multiple podcasting apps available for it. I recently downloaded the Downcast app. You can create playlists and organize what you download or stream so you don’t lose precious space on your device. Before that, I used the simple Podcast app on my iPhone.

Some other great podcast apps to try include Overcast. In addition to offering easy-to-find content, this app makes it simple for you to download podcasts for offline listening, which is my favorite feature of any podcast app. You can search for and subscribe to podcasts, create custom playlists, and get notifications when new content is available.

I also like the TuneIn Radio app. This app includes 100,000 real radio stations and more than four million podcasts streaming from every continent. Explore and follow the best in sports, news, music and talk to create your personalized feed.

You can also listen to podcasts using Soundcloud and Sticher. The Stitcher app is available on Apple and Android devices.

If you are looking for new podcasts, the new and noteworthy section of iTunes for podcasts is a great resource. The Podcast Top 200 lists the most popular podcasts, and the iTunes Essentials: Podcasts is a great way to find popular content. Use this curated library to find podcasts based on interests like “cooking” or “travel.”

And here’s a quick guide on how to download and listen to podcasts.

Check out my top 12 favorite podcasts below. Continue reading “My Top 12 Podcasts I Listen To”

15 Espadrilles for Summer

One the biggest shoe trends for the summer months is the oh-so-comfy espadrille. Espadrilles are casual flats that originated centuries ago in the Mediterranean. They are usually composed of a raffia or straw sole and easy to slip-on design. Espadrilles are flattering no matter your look, whether dressed up or down. They are so easy to slip on, light weight to keep you cool and comfortable to wear. They are the perfect choice for the beach or the city.

Espadrilles now come in a variety of fun colors and patterns. Soludos are 100 percent authentic rope sandals with an amazing variety of styles. My favorite collection is the designs by Miss Hamptons. Both brands are made in Spain. For budget friendly options, H&M and Top Shop carry cute designs.

I rounded up my favorite espadrilles to keep your feet happy and stylish in the hot days ahead. Trust me, you’ll live in these all season long. So, treat your feet to a pair of these stylish summer shoes.
